Preparing for 2026 :: We're Ready. Let's Get You Ready Too.

By Kelly Margani, CEO—SGI

As 2025 draws to a close, the path forward for law firm leaders is becoming clearer—and more complicated.

The forces shaping the legal industry aren’t temporary. They’re structural. They’re cultural. And they’re accelerating.

Whether you’re leading a large team or a lean boutique, you’re facing a new set of realities. A workforce that spans multiple generations, with vastly different expectations around mentorship, feedback, and autonomy. A hybrid work environment that challenges traditional notions of collaboration, culture, and connection. Clients who are scrutinizing every dollar, demanding more value, more responsiveness, and more business acumen.

And now, the arrival of AI tools has added another powerful—and polarizing—variable. On one hand, these technologies offer real potential to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and expand access to insights. On the other, they’re already shifting client perceptions of what’s valuable, what’s billable, and what they believe they can do themselves. That shift is putting new pressure on lawyers and law firms to redefine their role, reassert their expertise, and reposition their services in a rapidly changing marketplace.

Image is of four wooden blocks with symbols for strategy on them.

All of this is unfolding against a backdrop of economic uncertainty and tightening margins.

The leadership playbook of the past won’t carry you through this next chapter. And we say that not to provoke anxiety—but to affirm something essential: that you’re not imagining the pressure. It’s real. It’s rising. And it’s reshaping the profession.

At SGI, we’ve spent the past year listening closely and working deeply with firms navigating these exact shifts. What we’ve seen is that the most successful leaders aren’t just reacting. They’re preparing—strategically, thoughtfully, and with urgency. They're building resilient cultures. Developing new leaders. Rethinking business development. And redesigning the way their firms work.

And that’s what we’re here for.

At SGI, we’ve built our work around what this moment demands. And just like the firms we support, we’re evolving to meet it. In 2026, we’ll be adjusting our program pricing to reflect the depth and scope of support required to help lawyers and law firms lead through change—not just react to it.

But for now, our focus remains where it always has: on helping our clients move forward with intention. If you’re already thinking about how to strengthen your

firm in the year ahead—through leadership development, business growth, operational clarity, or cultural renewal—this is the time to begin that conversation.

Because if you’re leading a firm right now, you don’t need more noise. You need clarity. You need a plan. And you need partners who understand what’s at stake.

We’re ready for what’s next. Let’s make sure you are too.
